Urticaria (Hives) – New Drugs Update

So you may remember that my hives have been going crazy and I’ve been feeling pretty miserable about it. Red blotches everywhere and heaven knows the heat is no help either.  So I thought I’d do a quick update since things are definitely looking up since I last blogged about it.

The antibiotics really helped – seemed to take the heat out of the rash. Three days on Zithromax. Not sure why they helped, but probably some of the skin had become inflamed and infected so this calmed it down a lot.

The new anti-histamine that I’m on – Rupatadine – has been great. After about a week my skin was clearer than it’s been for ages. It really does help skin. It isn’t, I’m sorry to report, so fab for hay fever. My eyes have never been so itchy. But I’m using eye drops and living with that as I can’t cope with the skin, but can put up with the eyes.

I find my skin needs to have the moisturising regime changed every few months. The Dermol is good as the Aveeno doesn’t seem to be as effective any more. I’ve added in Eucerin as it really does help with the itch straight away.

So all in all it’s a bit of a result.

Rapatadine is really working for my Urticaria.
