Granny's BBQ Sauce

Chicken or Ribs

I've lots of recipes handed down to me from my mother, that were my grandmother's. This is one of our all time favourites - a BBQ sauce that's simple, and tastes great. Use it on ribs, or chicken - whichever you're in the mood for.

Mix together the following:

1/2 chopped medium onion (more or less depending on how onion friendly you are)

1 cup ketchup

3 tablespoons brown sugar (the darker the better)

1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce

1/2 tablespoon red wine vinegar

dash or two of tabasco sauce if you like it hot

salt and pepper

Spread over chicken pieces and cook as normal (40 mins for thighs, 30 for breasts if bone in) in a 170° C oven.

 

Now...if you fancy ribs:

Place ribs in a pan with enough water to cover them and cover the pan tightly with tin foil.

Place in a warm oven (150/160° C) for 2 hours.

After two hours take them out, drain them (they should be a whitish colour and pretty much be cooked)

Paint the sauce over them and put back in the oven at 170° C for 30 to 40 minutes until the sauce is a lovely shiny glaze.
